Daytona Beach

Part of the joy of this crazy lifestyle has been the  freedom and ability to go to places we've heard of but never seen.  Our day trip to Daytona Beach allowed us to put a picture to a couple of those places.

Daytona was what I expected of a modern beach town - rows of hotels fronting the actual beach, crowded parking and very tourist-y.  We just drove through to get a feel for the place.

The main drag
There wasn't much traffic the day we went.

We continued on to see another iconic American landmark - Daytona International Speedway, located appropriately on ...

The road to enter the speedway grounds

We're not big Nascar fans, but if you are, you can take tours of the arena.

The grandstands
There was a lot of construction going on and I heard later on TV that the project was due to be completed in time for the Daytona 500.

On the way out, we happened to see just how they plant all those beautiful palm trees.

The day trip was fun and now, when we hear about Daytona Beach or the 500, we can say - been there, done that!

Until next time...
