Pasadena Here We Come

We left early on Saturday morning to drive to California.  The trip is pretty much lacking in much of anything to look at, but we did pass by Picacho Peak, which means "big peak."  The park is near the site of the Battle of Picacho Peak, one of several American Civil War era engagements to occur in Arizona Territory. A Union cavalry patrol from California skirmished with Confederate scouts from Texas, and three men were killed. This marks the westernmost battle of the American Civil War. Every year during early March, there are reenactments of the battle and other demonstrations of Civil War military history.

Also along the way, we passed near Palm Springs, CA and saw their huge and multiple wind farms.  The hills around the city are filled with tall and baby sized wind generators.  It looks like they have been using this alternate power source for many years.

We arrived in Pasadena around 5:00 and met Kurt, Lillie's long time friend.  He lives in a fabulous top floor condo about two blocks from downtown Pasadena, with three bedrooms, living, dining, kitchen, etc and three outdoor patios.  I told him he should swap houses with us - I could totally live there! Needless to say, he wasn't interested!

Kurt fixed us a wonderful dinner then took us on a litttle mini tour of Pasadena on the way to our hotel.  It was dark, so no pictures, but we saw the Rose Bowl, Old Town and a couple of the tents where they were decorating floats.

Then to bed to get up early for the next day - LA from Skid Row to Beverly Hills!
